The leaflet "We did this last week, Sir" in the series "It's Parade Night Again!" is one method which leaders can use to analyse their section's programme, but assumes that leaders are familiar with the kind of activities which boys of this age find enjoyable. This leaflet may be of use to those who are relatively new to BB work or who are looking for new ideas.
1. The BB publishes a number of relevant publications, for example:
Go For Gold ? the Achievement Scheme
Worship
Junior Section Programmes on a Plate
Junior Crafts and More Junior Crafts
Scientific Experiment Worksheets
Word Searches
Junior Games
Team games
Participation Games
Activities without equipment
Fun for a Few
Group Work
Devotions for Juniors
Drama for Worship
Junior Cooking
Storytelling
Junior Section Summer Programme
Advancing Christ's Kingdom ? a foundation course
2. There is a wealth of additional material on the market and a visit to a suitable bookshop will give you lots of ideas. The Useful Resources" List available from London District, or from the Development Officer, gives lots of suggestions of material with a Christian basis.
3. The programme should last between 75 and 90 minutes.
4. Try to ensure variety within a week's programme and from week to week.
5. You will probably want to include the following activities in the programme each week:
opening activity
worship and/or Bible teaching
games
paper based activity or craft work
6. Other activities to consider for inclusion in the programme in some weeks are:
mime and drama
music
cooking
achievements
more complex craft work trip out
7. If you have enough boys consider putting them into two or more teams with a name. Have an on?going competition between the teams giving points for as wide a range of items as possible. Consider what rewards to give to the winning team at the end of the evening or end of the month. Such a competition can be great fun and is a great way to get the boys to behave!
8. Reflect on how much time to spend on each activity. Too little and the programme is rushed and too much and the boys become bored and restless.
9. Each edition of the "Gazette" has a training supplement with ideas for programme possibilities often on a topical theme. The indexes for the last two volumes are attached.
10. If you are interested in resources on world issues then CHIME International produces some helpful material and an 85 page catalogue.
